Thirty suspected criminals have been arrested in a special police swoop
in Ashaiman and its environs as part of efforts to rid the Metropolis of
criminals.
The exercise which lasted six hours was a joint operation involving the
Rapid Deployment Force (RDF), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), in
collaboration with personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Squad of the
CID headquarters including nine senior officers.
Addressing the media, the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Beatrice
Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri noted that the exercise will be sustained until
criminals are wiped out of the Tema Metropolis.
She said the arrested suspects will be interrogated, screened and profiled before being processed for court for prosecution.
Substances suspected to be narcotics were found on four of the
suspects. Baba Aba, 20 years, unemployed, Mohammed Ayuba, 19 years,
trader, Nathaniel Essilfie, a 23 year-old welder and Kwaku Eddie, a
20-year-old mechanic. The suspects are yet to be arraigned before court.
